Les NTIC au service des animaux domestiques : le cas du Chien : true or fake ?
Don’t want to walk your dog, let a drone do the work
"I grew up with dogs. My parents did the majority of the work including the walking, but I always enjoyed walking them – except when it was raining or snowing or I was in a rush or I just wanted to stay in bed. So that basically left a sunny Sunday morning.
But soon there may be a solution for walking your dog that doesn’t involve hiring a dog walker. New York-based videographer Jeff Myers used a drone to walk his golden retriever. He programs the walking route into an AR drone, attaches the drone to the dog’s leash, then sends the pooch and its new robot overlord out into the streets. The drone also appears to be equipped with a camera to keep an eye on the dog. Unfortunately it’s sort of a fake.
Myers uploaded this video."
Motherboard reported companies have reached out to Myers asking if the software is real and it isn’t. He simply tied the leash to the drone and flew it around the neighbourhood with his phone.
“Goldens are really well trained and I think she was freaked out enough by what was happening that she just went along with it,” Myers said of his dog in the Motherboard article. Of course if the idea does work in the future, there are a number of problems. Will the drone be able to stop and pick up poop? What if the dog isn’t as well behaved as the one in the video and darts after a squirrel?
There is also the issue of the dog always seeming to like the person who walks it most often. Would the dog run up and cuddle with the drone?
Despite the obvious issues, if this does become a reality it could really help out on many of those days when it’s raining or snowing."
